One of the podcasts I listen to is "The Daily" from the New York Times. On Sundays they do long-form readings of article in the Times.
Recently, I listened to an article while on one of my long weekend runs; the episode was called "The Social Life Of Forests". I found it fascinating, in its discussion of how trees in a forest communicate with each other. The big idea I got from the episode was to think of the whole forest itself as the organism, not just the individual trees. I love the idea of a collective making up an organism; this article lays out that concept beautifully, all the while explaining how trees can share carbon with each other and do other things to maintain the overall health of the forest.
Here is a pointer to that episode; you can always subscribe to The Daily via your favorite podcast app, too.
